New in Photone: Measure Your Actual DLI

The Logging tool can now record measurements for much longer periods and automatically calculate your actual Daily Light Integral (DLI).

This is especially useful when your plants get sunlight, since sunlight intensity changes throughout the day. Just place your phone where your plants are, start an Auto-Log, and let Photone record the light over the course of the day. Learn how to measure the actual DLI:

We’ve Been Copied. Again And Again.

It has never been easier to create and publish an app. With AI making development more accessible, new apps are appearing on the App Store and Google Play all the time.

Every few months, another app claims to measure PPFD. Some even copy our user interface or use our name, “Grow Light Meter.” But looking like Photone doesn't make an app a PAR meter — and many of these apps are seriously inaccurate.

Instead of spending our time testing every copycat app out there, we picked one of the most popular ones and compared it with Photone on the latest devices from Samsung and Google.

PAR Meter Apps Comparison
Not every PPFD app is a PAR meter! We compared popular PPFD meter apps against a professional $2,000 PAR meter — only one of them is accurate.

New Diffuser Video

We’ve created a new video showing you how to use the Photone Diffuser & Cosine Corrector accessory and get the most out of your measurements.

MIGRO Closed His Business

MIGRO, a well-known grow light manufacturer and influencer, has closed its business. Our research found that some of the company's published specifications did not match the hardware customers actually received. Mars Hydro has also faced criticism over specifications that don't always match independent measurements.

The takeaway? Don't blindly trust the numbers on a grow light's spec sheet. Measure the light yourself. Read the full article:

Why You Shouldn’t Blindly Trust Grow Light Specs
Popular grow light manufacturers are tweaking their numbers — in some cases, even lying to customers. This article analyzes two cases, what they’re lying about and what you as a grower can do about it.
